[ST] new ST (long)

My turn...

Saturday, having a talk with my wife I decided to call my preferred triumph dealer near parent's home, 140 km from us.

He taked me about the rocket III. Not interested to buy one, but to try one, why not. Weather was just fine for a road test.

The rocket was sold. Not possible to test one. BUT he has new triumphs. An ST and a speed triple.

Everybody in the car, the daughter let to my parents and let's go to the triumph store our helmets by hand.

I usually test a new bike with my wife behind me. Sort of family habits since 15 years.

The ST is brand new. 70km. And the dealer said to me he gives me the keys cause he knows me since 10 years (my first triumph in '94). He added it 30 kms at lunch time before I arrive in town.

Well, This bike looks far better than on photographs. But I think I'll need more time to accept it completely. Nothing to do with the silver Daytona in '99. When I saw it I immediately knew that it was the bike I searched for. Not the case for the ST. But design is not crappy for all that. I don't like imitation chrome side trim on the fairing. But sitting on the bike I forget all that. I see analogical clocks. Search for lighting the bike on without success (lights are always on, at least for european market).

When I start the bike, wow, this sound ?? I had a doubt, waiting for the keys inside the store hearing some music outside. Triumph has done a very beautiful job on the exhaust of *these* bikes. Legal but Power, deep and gorgeous sound. For me, no need to change something.

Road test was easy. Not too difference with my ST. More air coming inside the helmet perhaps. Handling was perfect, engine too new to be expressive. Suspension Ok. For a brand new bike with brand new tyres, I didn't feel too differences from the fork. New suspensions are generally stiffer and handling was not as neutral than on my ST (but tuned for me and my wife and harder than stock).
My wife had more place behind for their legs that on our Sprint. She can see the road very well but is perfectly exposed to wind pressure... A good bike for secondary roads but not for higways from her point of view.

The test was interesting but nothing to push me toward madness and to feel me the need to spend my money. I ask the dealer just in case but the difference in price he could buy my ST back and sell me the new one is the price of a second hand RS present in the store with 2400 km on meter ...

The speed was more interested for me (for my wife it was an experience).
More beautiful sound. Handling easy. Suspension less stiff then on the Daytona.
Long time I think for a roadster. But I need the ST to commute and I'm always in love with my Daytona's bodywork.

Too expensive for a third bike... And just in case, passenger seat is less comfortable than Daytona and previous T5 speed triple.

This speed also gives cough and splutters at low revs. The throttle is a pretty dawn short range one. This one I need to test it alone another time ;)

But I'll not change one of my bike for those new ones. Even if I always have this marvelous sound in my hear (nothing to do and far better to my hear than my carbon Daytona can).
