[ST] Who does one pick the bike alone?

To Brett: Thanks for the kind words. My "falls" have always happened at ultralow speeds when i applied the frony brakes semiurgently like with other bikes but the others don't lock whereas the ST does.I have no other problem otherwise, have never fallen riding, no high or low sided, but these stupid little falls that ended w a serious fracture. Needles to say I had been realizing far back that I shuould get better boots since I alreadu had problems with the lateral ligamente of both ankles. Too late. But now that I'm on crtches have ordered a pair od SIDI Crosa with al the bells and accessories posible. I'll let you know guys how they are. This shows that even a stupid little mistake can cause a serious problem non-linear thinking, so from now on it's SIDI everyday.
To Emile: The only times the bike has gone down is when I grabbed for the front breaks and locked the wheels and the rest is Hx. It seems to me very difficult to control the degree of progressive breaking in emergency situation in the ST. It seems that thewre's a point where it goes all or none situation, which doesn't seem to happen on other bikes, and believe me I've practiced a lot in stopping as fast as I can w/o locking, but...and since we are in this subject I'd like to start a new line on " Methods of picking a doen bike when one is alone in the Desert? Comments highly needed?

Hey Gene,

Sorry to hear of your mishaps. I have had a broken ankle from riding an off
road trike. I hate trikes. Trikes are dangerous ride. Only even numbers of
wheels work for bikes, in my opinion.

Anyway, with the benefit of wonderful hind sight if I had done my observation
just a little differently I probably would have avoided this crash. I've had
to plenty of incidents where I have had to stop very quickly and done so quite
fine. I practice this regularly. I have had the front end loose traction in a
corner more than once and saved it.

This time, the exact point where I applied the front brake was on a patch of
tarmac about ten inches long by 5 inches wide, containing oil and dampness
from the rain that morning. Very difficult to see when riding as there was only a
slight change in colour.
Just bad luck on that on for me. The really annoying thing for me is that I'm
far to old and sensible these days. I've had enough of recovering from
injuries and the time without and off the bike is time I'll never get back.

I have never thought of the ST brakes as sensitive or grabby. Quite the
opposite infact. Perhaps there are other factors at play in the case of your lock
ups?

Hope you are recovering well and keeping sane during your down time.

Cheers
Brett
