You might want to take a look at the Suzuki DR200.   I picked up a DRZ400 a 
few months ago, and I can't get over how much fun it is.  It shares 
commuting duty with the Sprint about 50/50.  The 400 has a much more 
"high-tech" liquid cooled engine, but it's pretty tall and maybe a bit 
intimidating for a newer rider.  The 200 is much lower and more manageable, 
but probably would be scary at any speeds over 55 or so.
