Re: [ST] chain adjustment



Sorry Howard, but this is not true according to my factory service
manual (for both ST and RS).  Perhaps newer manuals are a bit different?

Step 1 says "Set the motorcycle up on the side or centre stand."

I take this to mean that the angle that the swingarm sits at when on the
side stand vs. the centre stand is not enough to make a difference to
the adjustment.

The chain is tightest when the centre points for the countershaft
sprocket, the swingarm pivot, and the rear sprocket are all lined up.
When the bike sits on the centre stand, the rear sprocket hangs a bit
low, and when on the side stand it sits a bit high.  I believe Triumph
considers this to be a wash, and quotes the slack adjustment with this
is mind.  The slack specification (35-40 mm) is the SAME for both the ST
and the RS BTW (and when my manual was printed, there was no RS with the
SSSA)
