Re: [ST] Osram Silvertips

Do you have a psrt number, price paid and site for purchase of these? I'm interested in upgrading my headlights, and am considering these and the Philips. I would like to compare pricing and availability of each.

  Hi All,

I decided to follow the advice of the brilliant sages on this list, and I replaced my headlight bulbs with Osram Silvertips, in the same wattage as before : 55/60.

I was going to go for the Philips Vision plus -but couldn't find them.

The difference in the amount of light is amazing : the light is much "whiter", and the light generated is much brighter.

The advertising blurb says "50% more light", and I think it is at least that much brighter.

I had to reset the lights, but I now have dims (two!) that throw real light, not the feeble light I had before, and the brights are enough to make oncoming cars (or deer) die of fright if you flash them.

To set the lights I had a friend with a Blackbird park his bike next to mine, and then we shone both lights on a wall and set mine to match his.

He was also amazed at the improvement in the amount of sharp light.

Moral of the story : go out and replace your head light bulbs! (and fit the extra relay if you don't have it.)

Tip: to get the electrical connection off without having to pull the bike apart, pull it off at an angle, towards the left hand side of the bulb: it seems to "stick" only on the right hand connector.

cheers
