[ST] Brake sliding

Perhaps the best current demonstrations of brake sliding are
presently put on by Nicky Hayden but it's an old dirt track habit from
which his team is trying to wean him because of the difficulty getting
the tires to last the distance of the race. At turn two at Laguna Seca
you could watch him backing it in under trail-braking while holding in
the clutch and banging down through four gears with the shifter
approaching the apex;... and all the while passing somebody on the
outside! The tricky part is the required transition from brake slide to
power slide on the exit, very fancy clutch and throttle work indeed.
Kenny Roberts perfected the technique a quarter century ago
and used it for years before power advances overwhelmed tire
improvements. He taught the technique with schools at his California
ranch using Honda XR100s on a short dirt track,... it's a tradition
continued today at the Chris Carr/Danny Walker American Supercamps. Try
it,... you'll love it! =8o) www.american
