[ST] leaded petrol question

I've had someone from the local Triumph agent suggest running a tank of leaded through my bike.

The reason is that the tune is not quite right for my aftermarket pipe (with no cat), I've got a stonking mid range compared to the standard pipe, but it pops too much on the overrun. They don't seem to be able to sort out the popping, and I cant see why swapping fuel will help.

Its a locally made stainless pipe, not a Micron etc which cost a bomb here. ( Looks very nice - I can email a pic if someone wants to see.)

I get reasonable mileage, I use about 5.5l per 100km, and I'm a bit heavy on the throttle.

I put the standard pipe back on -hey presto no popping, but the mid range was flat and the bike sounds pathetic, so I put the aftermarket pipe back on.

I'm a moron when it comes to mapping, octane etc -but I'm scared the lead will damage something.

In this country unleaded is 95 octane, and leaded is 97 octane.

Anyone help me out with a suggestion ?

thanks

Marc
