RE: [ST] GPS & SAT NAV ???

No problem, Brett - I have a Magellan Meridian Platinum GPS. I have had it
for two years now, and it has survived everything from being snowed upon at
Mt. Kosciusko to being dropped off a 4 metre platform with no problems at
all. Magellan also put out Discover Aus mapping software, which I find to
be very good. It also displays my speed accurately, which means that I am
not tied into the 10% or so error that it built into the Sprint ST speedo.

If you go to www.gpsoz.com.au	and have a look around there, they are
running out their last Magellan Meridian stocks by way of some very good
"packages". Their Meridian Gold pack seems to be very good value indeed.
As they are in Sydney (Mona Vale) it would be worth your while to go have a
chat with them. I have purchased items by mail from them before, and their
customer service has been excellent.

I use a RAM mount on my handlebars to keep it snug and secure at all speeds
and road conditions.

I do hope that this has been of some use to you.

Cheers

Tony

Hey thanks Tony,

The device you use on the bike & for bush walking sounds like the one we're
after. My girl and I have been discussing getting a unit that would do both
and be able to stand the weather.

Some more info would be great e.g. model, software, your experiences with it
etc.

Cheers
Brett

G'day Brett - Tony in Melbourne here.

The Mitsubishi ad sort of got it right....as stated before, a GPS will tell
you where you are, and track where you have been - pretty much what the GPS
I use on my Sprint does...it is a Magellan Meridian Platinum, with Discover
Oz mapping. The mapping is great - basically 99% of sealed and unsealed
roads in Australia on it. I use it on the bike because it is also
waterproof and pretty sturdy. I also use it when I go yomping into the bush
and forests.

Sat Nav is what I use in the car - Destinator Software running on my PDA -
which is able to give you routing directions - eg turn right in 200 metres
etc. To get to a certain address point.

I don't usually have the PDA mounted on the bike - due to concerns about
weather and vibration.

Contact me off forum if you want to discuss further.

Cheers

I have a question for those that have a GPS.

I'm looking at buying one soon (ish), but lately I have seen ads for GPS and
SAT NAV devices.

The latest Mitsubishi is advertised as having both.

Does anyone know what the difference is?

Cheers,
Brett
Sydney.
