RE: [ST] Heated Grips

I guess gloves are indeed more efficient... if you are
planning to ride thru Alaska in the winter for 3 weeks...
But if you're riding in temperatures not colder than
say minus 5 C below freezing, than a proper pair of
heated grips is more than sufficient. But only if the
grips, like on the Sprint ST, are out of the windblast
and if your gloves do not have a thick liner. I use
Held gloves that are only lined with gore tex, a thin
textile liner and a layer of armacor, the parafine
material that Rukka uses in their (winter)gear. That
way the gloves get sufficient heat and the isolation
is good enough to not loose too much on the top of
the hand.

It's warm enough at least to make the cooling of the
body the limiting factor during a long ride in the cold.
For those very rare days that it is very cold and I have
to make a long ride anyway, I use a Gerbing heated liner
which plus right into the 12V. If your body is warm, the
hands will be a lot less cold as well.

For the rare ride out of Florida the gloves might be
a very efficient solution. But if you ride more often
in cold or chilly situations (like cold mountain passes
or clear autumn nights) than I wouldn't want to hassle
all the time with the wires and / or extra pair of
gloves. Most probably those gloves would be lying in
a closet at home when I need them after a cold front.
At least we have a choice :-).
