I don't get on with comparing cars to bikes. Ot bikes to cars for that
matter. My car is even better than the FJR or BMW as it also has
traction control, climate control (including a wet weather shield).

All that speculation is now coming to an end: BMW's long-awaited new
model featuring a brand-new high-performance four-cylinder power unit
and revolutionary suspension technology is celebrating its world debut
at INTERMOT 2004: The new K 1200 S, BMW's sports machine in the
K-Series. With engine output of 123 kW (167 bhp) and overall weight of
248 kg (547 lb) including fuel, this motorcycle offers the highest
standard of dynamic performance. BMW lists the dry weight of the new
machine at 499 pounds (we suspect there was some pressure from the
marketing side to come up with a number that started with a "4"), and
the wheelbase at a whopping 61.8 inches, which would make the K longer
than, say, a Harley-Davidson Sportster or a Honda ST1300.

So basically its a 547lb boat. Even though it says 167BHP on the box
it's only 146 when you open the box. It has shaft drive like my car.
It's a bit lardy but however is a bit of a revelation for the BMW boys.
Yamaha was doing 55 deg inclined four cylinder bikes in the 80's.

I think as time passes the hysteria will pass and editorials will just
rate it as another long lardy bike in the heavyweight sports tourer
league. I wouldn't say no if someone gave me one though. But it looses
too much in the flickability stakes. But I guess if you are a bit past
your prime then it makes better sense. It's the choice between that or
the Harley or giving up bikes altogether.
