[ST] New Thread, Motorcycle Lifts

Back in Dec. I reported that I had bought myself a lift for Xmas and
_bil@xxxxxxxxxxx (mailto:bil@xxxxxxxxxx) asked for a review. I've now had a fair
amount of time to work (play) with it and can give you all a decent review.
First off I looked at a lot of lifts, _www.precision.bz.com_
(http://www.precision.bz.com) , _www.powerxsports.com_ (http://www.powerxsports.com) ,
_www.kowatools.com_ (http://www.kowatools.com) , _www.thecarlsoncompany.com_
(http://www.thecarlsoncompany.com) , _www.handyindustries.com_
(http://www.handyindustries.com) , _www.gregsmithequipment.com_ (http://www.gregsmithequipment.com)
(good copies of Handy's), _www.lift-buddy.com_ (http://www.lift-buddy.com)
, _www.weliftmotorcycles.com_ (http://www.weliftmotorcycles.com) and,
_www.harborfreight.com_ (http://www.harborfreight.com) . I bought Harbor
Freight's Central Hydraulics mod. 91764, 1,000 Lb. motorcycle lift, for the reason
of price/value/function.
The biggest obstacle was shipping to Chicago, it added at least $100 to
all their prices. I was just about to go with the We lift Motorcycles
air/hydraulic model when Harbor Freight put theirs on sale for $300 out the door and,
there is a store about 20 miles from my house, meaning NO shipping (they
also loaded it into my truck for me).
The closest comparable lift are the two from We Lift Motorcycles. The
Harbor Freight one is the same as the We Lift... "Hydraulic Only" model BUT has a
larger platform (27"W X 86.5"L) of the We Lift..".Air/Hydraulic" model.
Harbor Freight's lift has a 11.5" X 29.5" "lift out" panel to aid in rear wheel
removal. other niceties are the grease zerks. When all the way down it is
6.5" tall, all the way up it is 31.5". There is a 1" bar that slides through the
two forward lifting arms to lock the platform at 19.5" and 28" with no load
on the hydraulics. In front on each side are a pair of leveling screws.
I've had my '95 Trophy on it,no problems. And a friends Honda ST1100
(which is no lightweight) it handled it easy. I've added in the back corners a
pair of 5/16 steel eyelets so that I can use a pair of tie-downs to hold the
front wheel up for its removal. And the entire hydraulic lifting assembly from
Harbor Freight is only $45. I'll probably get one soon just to have, worst
case scenario you know. I hope I've answered all questions that you might have,
if not ask away.
