Re: [ST] Spam

I use Yahoo (as I'm sure many do) and once I enabled the SPAM filter and
configured it accordingly (which mainly consisted of telling Yahoo about
the odd mail that didn't get through that wasn't SPAM and the odd mail
that DID get though that was) it works 99% (no SPAM filter can be 100%).

YMMV

The difference with the free ones vs the pay for ones is generally in
their ability to be effectively managed in an enterprise, as well as the
general granularity of control. For the home user, the free ones are good
and work well. For the enterprise, they can be a management nightmare.

Marc, the gmail address is a completely new address. So no wonder that
there's no spam (yet). Still, the spam filter they use is very good in my
opinion. For you, you still have to find out how good it is, but you can
check the spam folder in the gmail interface online how good the filter is
(occassionally non-spam can end up there, make sure you check in the
beginnning).

About other commercial companies offering anti-spam, anti-worm and other
stuff like that, you often see that the free ones are best. Microsoft
spyware is the best spyware finder-killer so far and is free. McAffee,
although very good at finding virusses, is one of the worst spyware
programs eventhough it's commercial. Same with the free zonealarm
firewall, which used to be better than commercial programs (don't know how
that is now).

I guess a lot of software is like BMW motorcycles, you certainly don't get
what you pay for ;-).
