On the centerstand and then maybe some straps to pull the rear assembly up
(using the rear grab rail maybe) while leaving the wheel as is - i.e.
unloading the rear shock. It just might give you enough room to fit the
hugger a little easier...

the grab rail maybe) and not the wheel - i.e. increasing the amount of room
you have to play with (if that makes sense) I think it will go a lot easier.
