Re: [ST] for Brett - fuel economy

Rik,
Long before 1990, so long ago, those memory banks are in total disarray,
they were selling a lot of bolt on turbo charger kits for 4x4's and cars
here in the US. The better kits all had a ping/knock/detonation sensor
attached to a water injector. As soon as any sign of detonation occurred
the water was shot in. In those days one of the biggest problems was the
bearings in the turbine wouldn't stand up to the heat and 10K rpms.

I have seen the result of injecting or forcing water into the carb duct
(pipe from the carb to the inlet port) on a supercharged B40? BSA. The
increase in power is due to the water molecules dispersing the fuel more
evenly and the effect of the water molecules vaporising during the burn.
This works best with long stroke engines.
It is normal with special build superchargers to have water injection.
There is a mod kit which can be installed on a Jaguar XKR for doing this.

Rik.
