[ST] Canal crash, mean time at Greenwich and lots of liquid too! (Long) Part II

4/6/06, Home - I had trouble sleeping all night and I was still in a lot
of pain and having difficulty breathing. My lovely bride calls our
medical insurance provider and talks to th on-call nurse. He tells her
that if I'm in that much pain and am having trouble breathing then call
an ambulance and get me to the hospital.

Off we go to another hospital. More x-rays but this time they are
digital. Way cool! I had only seen that once before and that was six
years ago in a country with socialized medicine!

The new diagnosis: I had broken four ribs and my left clavicle.

Back home we try to find out where the bike has been towed. I'll bet
that you're all familiar with dealing with government employees. And I'm
sure you've all heard about that infamous New York attitude. Combine
them and you get nowhere real fast. After several phone calls the lovely
bride finds out that the bike which went down in Tribeca is now 130+
blocks north and 10 blocks east away, in a garage up in Harlem.

4/7/08 - State Farm Insurance tells me that they don't have motorcycles
in their database so the bike has to be towed to a motorcycle shop for
an estimate. With the garage in Harlem closed on Saturday and the
Triumph dealer closest to my home is closed on Monday and it being peak
time for work in MC shops I can't get the bike towed until the 12th. At
this point, towing and storage is now up US$260

4/10/06 - Back at work. Life is good when you're the supervisor!

4/12/06 - The bike has finally been towed to Jack Trebour. I notify
State Farm and they take over. Tow: an additional US$150

4/13/06 - Borrow a recliner from work. Now I can get some better sleep.

4/21/06 - State Farm calls. The bike is totaled. Estimated value:
US$4,300. Estimated cost to repair: US$2,900. I decide to take the money
and buy it back for a mere US$400. After the deductible I'll get a check
for US$3,400+ Again this is on a Friday and I can't do a thing about the
bike until Tuesday.

4/26/06 - I arrange a truck to haul it from JT to my home. Cost: Nada,
it helps to have friends with trucks. Upon first inspection it doesn't
look that bad. All left fairings, pannier and mirror are scraped up.
Shifter, foot peg and pannier clip: bent. It's leaking oil from
somewhere, hopefully just the air box as a result of being on its side.
Once I have use of my left wing I'll start triage and determine if it
will ride again or be sliced up and sold on eBay.

So, what am I doing to keep myself out of trouble? Rupert, you'll be
happy to know that I'm learning a lot about Joomla, Gallery2 and
ExtCalendar. I am the point where I haven't found a single template that
I like so I'll be making my own.

Oh, and again folks, don't forget to snip!
