Re: [ST] [Fwd: Re: Fuel Reserve]

FYI - the Triumph service manual for 99-01 Sprints states that the tank capacity is 21 liters, and that the low-level light comes on at 4 liters (original edition) or 3 liters (later editions, but still for 99-01). I'm not sure if the low-level light was changed, or if it was a typo in the first print. If I had to guess, I would say that it was a typo in the first edition. The first edition is known for typos, and the later editions generally stated both numbers and the applicable years when there was a difference between the years. This was not the case; the number was simply changed/corrected in the manual to 3 liters.

So that would put the tank at 5.548 gallons, and the low-level light coming on when .793 gallons are left (or 1.057 if you think that the 99 had it at 4 liters, while the 00-01 had it at 3 liters).

Hope that helps.

I just realized that I sent this offlist. On the off chance that anyone
else is interested here are the results of my low-fuel light test.

Filled the tank on the way home last night.

Miles = 230.5
Fuel = 4.976 US Gal
MPG = 46.22

According to 3 or 4 resources on the web the capacity of the tank is
listed at 5.6 Gal. So by my math, assuming that I would get the same MPG
for the last .6 Gal of tank and that the tank can be run dry, I could
have gone another ~27 miles. I can tell you that I wouldn't have felt
good about it though :). And for the 5 or so tanks that I've run through
recently (while paying attention) the light has pretty consistently come
on around ~220 miles and my mileage has been a steady 45/46.
