Marc,

That seems odd you feel the need to machine the socket on that side. I was obliged to, but for the opposite nut (left hand side one) to put the axle appart and regrease the bearing, and it was the outside of the socket. Never need to grind or machine the socket for this side. By the way the washer/shim is alloy.
