The '05/'06 has a shorter wheelbase and a steeper steering geometry, which leads to much faster steering/handling more than ay other factors. The planted and stability could definitely be attributed to the suspension.

I can say straight away that '05 suspension is better than previous models.
I could never get my '99 to handle at a point where I was truly happy with
it.
Having said that, I think there are a bunch of other tweaks in the '05 that
influence the handling. For example, it steers a lot quicker and is not as much
an effort to get it to change direction quickly.
Its noticeably more stable in bumpy corners. I went up two clicks on the rear
preload.
Generally it feels a lot more planted.
