Re: [ST] 2000 RS ECU Question

it sure does if the engine was hot enough (about 103 C) for the fan to
be running at the moment you turned off the ignition switch -- but I'm
sure you knew that

> Does the kill switch kill the fan too?

apparently it does, although I must admit I haven't actually tested
this -- I had a quick look at the schematic and it wasn't immediately
obvious to me one way or the other, but I think it stands to reason that
if using the kill switch prevents the ECU from storing sensor values at
shutdown, it's probably going to upset the ECU's ability to control the
fan too (I believe the temp sensor simply informs ECU of the current
temp, and then the ECU decides when to turn the fan on and off)

I meant that 2% as measured by Gas analyzer would be considered low
(lean)

performance

I never had a performance can on my '99 ST and it didn't run right until
the CO was adjusted to 3%, but then again I think the mechanic had also
loaded a different tune (on Triumph's recommendation) in an effort to
cure the problems I was having at the time -- it worked too -- having
said that, I thought the recommended setting was 2.5% to 3% regardless
of which can is fitted, the point being that the optimal fuel/air
mixture produces a certain CO % reading as a result of combustion, and
that's what you're after, the optimal burn -- it makes sense to me that
the CO % would change when a performance pipe is fitted and a new tune
is loaded, so you'd need to re-adjust idle mixture to compensate -- and
the measurement/adjustment is only done at idle anyway, right?

yes, I am aware of this -- I was pretty sure it wasn't the trim value
that the mechanic was referring to, but rather the Gas analyzer reading,
but I didn't watch him do the adjustments -- it sounds to me like you
have first-hand knowledge of the process

agreed

with

aha, so you've actually done these adjustments yourself -- are you a
Triumph mechanic or do you have Wayne's Tuneboy? -- I'm not, and I don't

maybe I should just shut the f^%k up as I didn't intend to beat this to
death -- OTOH I am open to someone such as yourself pointing out where
I've gone astray :-)

cheers
