Re: [ST] New Bike Deliberations

The 10R is a brutal bike. Wicked fast on the track if you can tame it. Yes - easy to highside without really good throttle control. I think it's WAY overkill and sort of unusable on the street (like taking a fighter jet to your job 15 miles away - looks cool, fast, but impractical and not necessary...).

Although I'm not a speed guy (I keep forgetting to look at my speedometer on the track, and everyone asks how fast I get up to on the track), I'll probably be setting a new personal top speed in two weeks. The Pocono FUSA circuit uses Pocono's NASCRAP track including the turn 2 kink on the banking (aside from using the front straight in front of the grandstands). And at the end of this, you have to get on the brakes to dive into the infield (link to track map - red line is FUSA circuit. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g175/mheyer/Random/pocono_aerial.jpg ). I've heard the transition from the oval to the infield is rough, as well as there is a wicked bump while leaned over in the NASCAR turn 2 kink. I've been told, if the bike has the power to get there, 170 mph is possible. This is probably going to be scary....

On the wheelie-monster side of things, I might be turning my GSX-R 750 into one. I find that I'm not even getting into 5th with stock gearing (17/42), so I purchased a 15/45 combo to put on the bike. I was surprised that a lot of the guys on gixxer 600's are running 15/50 - wow! Makes me think I was a real pusy simply going to 19/45 on my previous ST.

Anyway, be careful with the latest liter bikes - they can bite you!

That's almost 40% less than the new price here .

Ride the bike first though, I didn't like the way it delivered its power
-I think the Honda and GSXR are better for ordinary mortals. Cruddy
instruments as well - you cant read them if the sun is shining on them.

It scared the living daylights out of me a few times. The front wheel
comes up quite suddenly driving hard out of corners, even in third at
big speeds.

In a straight line it was a rush - what amazing acceleration, makes my
955 look like a 650. I've set a personal fastest top-end on the '06
ZX10, and it still had some legs left.

I think the ZX10 could be easy to high side on the track.
