The difference is the ease of doing it, and how wide spread it gets.  Plus, with only one copy, you have to share (i.e. only one person can have it at a time).  I understand the analogy, but I can see how one is quickly significantly more detrimental to their subscriber base, and thus revenue.

That sucks.  Whats the difference if you bought the print and passed the magazine around to your friends and people at work to read so they don't have to buy it?  NONE!
