Re: [ST] Back from the Track

Being a racer myself, I can say that 85% of all racers are severly critical of their rides. After each practice session and race, generally you do a visiual inspection of everything, measure pressures, verify oil levels, look for any leaks, etc. It becomes a ritual, and is very important. Most of us also go above and beyond with repairs being more maintance than waiting for something to fail. I replace clutches every fourth race weekend, even though I can proboboly get almost a complete season out of one. Oil changes would be generally every 250 miles or sooner. Chains are replaced at the half season mark, thermostat and wheel bearings every season, shock and fork oils changed half way, and full rebuilds in the off season. It's an expensive sport, but still cheaper than major injuries that may be caused by catastrophic failures. In the off season, I usually have GMD do a chassis measurement as well, just to make sure everything is still nice and tight. I am running a 99
GSXR 750, and am stiff very competitive against they guys with 05-06 bikes. It's all about the condition and setup of the equipment, and the balls to produce good numbers :)

That opinion speaks greatly. Having been and still somewhat a racer, I can attest that any racer worth while will keep tip top shape of their mount. Because of the speeds that are being run, if the want to be competetive and safe, that mount better be better than good. Usually after every outing on the track it is looked at with great scrutiny. Even after a crash on the track, they take great care in making sure everything is right and straight. If it's not, they get another bike and use the former as a parts bin.

So yeah, I agree 100% that a racer takes better care than most. It's their ass on the line.

Unless I'm worried about the bike post-crash (or some weird engine/mapping mods were done), I'd rather buy a bike from a racer than most people, as they generally take great care of their bikes. But that's just my opinion.
