Re: [ST] Tying down on a trailer

A warning about Canyon Dancers:
The way they're designed, the tension applied to the tie downs applies
a nearly equal pressure along the grips towards the centerline of the
bike. This can cause the grips to be deformed or move them inwards on
the bars.

I've had bikes damaged as a result of this. In each case, the
throttle sleeve moved on the bar. On my ST, it broke off the locating
pin for the throttle assy - no big deal. But on another, a nearly
perfect Ducati F1 http://tinyurl.com/pfar4 which I was helping
transport to our local Rose City M/C Museum, the same thing happened
and the bike lurched to the left damaging the fairing and breaking the
windscreen.

It seems like it would be pretty simple to provide a way to lock the
Canyon Dancer's straps once they're fitted to the bars but when this
came up on-list some time ago, someone posted a response from CD
saying in effect that if they're used properly, no damage will
result... YMMV
