It is not directly the rev's, its the power. In MotoGP the 3 cyl is the same size as the 4's and 5 cyls.
The 675 does not have as much power as the Japanese 4 cyl 600cc, but it is close with better torque. If the Triumph triple were only 600cc, it would just be a big dog.
