Re: [ST] Exhaust removal

Marc,

I think you can do it yourself. Do you have a gas torch? Do you have some basic tools.

The best is to have ethylene/O2 torch but a simple propane torch can
do it.

Two solutions:
-the first that I experienced in the same condition as the damage is near the end
of the collector and then reachable from outside:
Get a piece of round iron like a barre and round up the end w/ a grinder. The part should allow you
to push the metal from inside getting back the shape of the collector tube.
Once that part done, you get your collector firmly hold on a work bench. Don't squeeze it though ;-)
You introduce the iron part inside the collector. Then you warm up the squired portion
until cherry red and you push from inside on that location little by little moving around on all the
damaged spot. As the tube is getting mild given the temperature, it will get back in shape as you push out.
Be carefully not to damage the ridge of the collector output.

-the second which seems to be common practice on off-road bike exhaust is to close all the
collector outputs and on one of the output manage to have an inflating valve. Those kind of
part (w/ the valve) can be purchased. I saw that on a part catalog. Apply pressure to the collector
(you need a compressor here) let's say 7 kg/cm2 and warm up the damaged portion until cherry red. It will get back in shape.

Note that if you have an ethylene torch or can have one handy, don't warm up until white, 'cause you'll
destroy you collector.

I practiced the first solution w/ first class result but not the second.

Hope that help.
