I ran my 00 ST with full Gerbings(Jacket liner, pants liner, gloves, and socks) without any problems. I prefer to use the direct cable to the battery, rather than the socket included. But if your only going to use a jacket, I think you can get away with the socket. Just make sure you get the heat controller, as the clothing can get too hot for comfort. The electrical system is completly fine to support it, as I didn't have a problem with anything electrical for the two years I used heated clothing.
