Been there! Just four days after I bought by '00 ST, I did the exact same thing in a wet parking lot at work. Good idea on the grip tape.

It just occured to me to pass this experience along.
About a month ago, my '00 Sprint ST fell over for the first time. It was raining when I stopped for gas. As I was putting the bike on the centerstand my boot slipped off. Ever so slowly the bike toppled away from me. I just could not hold it up. I was lucky. It only scratched the fairing a bit.
Since then I have added a piece of the "grip" tape to the tab on the centerstand. Sorry I don't know what the tape is called. It is like very rough sandpaper on one side and sticky on the other.
