Re: [ST] Poor Gas Mileage / Leaky Colder Fuel Connector / Etc

"I had a full tank of gas and after disconnecting the Colder (Team Triumph)
fuel fittings, I continued to get gas weeping out the female connector that
screws into the tank. Weird. Made a bit of a mess emptying the tank into a
couple gas cans, but now that the tank is almost empty I can at least
consider working on it. Could it be extra pressure from a full tank of gas
pushing it past the valve or is the valve thingie inside not working
correctly? Thoughts? I can't say I've smelled gas leaking when the fuel Q/D
is attached or anything. There was a bit of a greasy film on the tank below
the plate all that stuff bolts to, so perhaps it's time for a new gasket.
Those tiny bolts have like 5 Nm of torque on them. Maybe one is just a
little loose from when the local mechanic swapped my fuel filter out during
the 36K service."

Is your female fitting Colder??? If it is the plastic one, they fail just
like the elbow's do. Mine broke during the replacement process. Most
mechanics take the fitting apart before installing so that they can get a
socket around them. It may have broken then or it may not be put together
right. Also, that BSPT on the fitting really needs some Teflon tape around
it so I would make sure it is the fitting leaking not the threads. I don't
have a problem with pipe threads in the basement but when they are in my
fuel system, I never have a warm fuzzy putting the torque to them. I'm sure
you already have done that but just making sure. It also may be a defective
fitting because that cut off needs to be perfect or it won't seal. I put
them in on my ST and my dealer put them in on the RS as "a favor." Bet he
won't do that again. It took him over an hour to get the female replaced
because both the old and new fittings didn't want to cooperate. I sure
enjoyed watching him have the problem not me.
