I just loosen the pad retaining pin, then remove a caliper. Unscrew the retaining pin and the pads fall out. Spray pads with brake cleaner and wipe clean with a rag. Spray calipers around the pistons with brake cleaner. Wipe with a rag. Carefully pump brake lever to get pistons to move. Clean some more. Push pistons back in. Clean some more. Usually a piston or two will be a little sticky and I'll need to hold the others in in order to get the sticky piston to move so it can be cleaned. Then reassemble the mess being sure to lube the retaining pin with some copper slip/brake lube and move on to the next caliper...

I'm wondering if something like using emory cloth on the pads would restore the grip, or if cleaning the rotors somehow would help (never touched the rotors). I've got 40K+ miles on the bike and wouldn't say I use the brakes hard. I put the current pads on about a year ago (15K miles) before a couple track days.

I have a fresh set of EBC HH pads for the front waiting to go, but it seems like such a waste since the existing pads have lots of life left in them. No where close to being worn out, yet the stopping power is significantly reduced.
