Re: [ST] oil light

If it's flashing at idle, then is fine when the revs are higher, it's either the switch being bad (95% of the time) or an oil system pressure loss. All the oil pressure switches in motorcycles are of a similar design, and when they start failing, it's an internal leak within the switch. When this occurs, as the oil pressure is lower at idle, the light will flash or be on. I've had similar problems in a CBR600, as well as two cars. Replacing the switch was a very easy task in the cars, and only cost $20. If you want to properly diagnose the problem, get an oil pressure guage, and mount it to a t fitting at the switch mounting area. Run the bike, and watch the pressure. If the pressure in the guage is within spec, the switch is bad. If it's out of spec, internal repairs are needed.

Also, just check the connector, and verify the connector is alll the way on :)

Anyone know why an oil light would come on on a new RS955, just after its
been serviced?

Bike has only done 10 000kms.

The owner, a firend, has checked the oil level, which is fine.

Bike starts normally, sounds fine, runs cool, no sign of any problem except
the oil light which flashes.

It went back to the shop, who said they had checked it out, but it still
does it intermittently, especially at idle.
