That's the one...I knew I didn't have the basics correct.

He was on the way back from a meeting - well, so he said - so I believe it
was classed as official business so the feds had to pay the settlement.

Don't you mean the senator from SD who blew through a stop SIGN and killed
the biker?  That was Bill Janklow, who was convicted of second-degree
manslaughter, speeding and running a stop sign, as well as reckless
driving.  He was sentenced to 100 days in jail, which I doubt he had to
serve...
