Gavin - I had the same problem with my tank bag (I have the Triumph bag).  I
just used a long RAM 'stem' and this allows me to pivot my Valentine etc.
away from the bag towards the instruments.  I can't see my speedo or rev
counter with that configuration but I can see my speed on the GPS and I
really don't care about the rev counter.  Having said that,  I also used to
have it mounted on the LH handlebar but I found it interfered with the
fairing a bit too much and it was too far out of my line of sight.

Thanks!  Very helpful.

Now have the Zumo :) but restricted so far to navigating around the  
house... but looks good so far.

I'm pretty sure the tank based positioning will interfere with my tank  
bag (the very effective Motopak - thanks to Neil Lindsey for the tip  
earlier this year in this list), so am probably going to try the LH  
handlebar mount as first option.

I'll keep a log of how I get on and at some point / where post some  
pictures of how it works out...
