Re: [ST] [RS] 2001 RS starter engine dead ?

All this talk of solenoids and starters makes me think of
the simplicity of
my 1949 Chevy truck. It had no solenoid. It had a pedal next
to the accelerator
that pressed on the mechanical equivalent of the relay to
mash the contact
bar and put current to the starter motor. There was
something quite satisfying
about mashing that pedal and the accelerator at the same
time to make it start.
I'm afraid there is no good place to mount such a basic
device on a bike
though. ;-)

That's just brilliant :-)
Wish I had the same system on my RS... I ran more tests and
the solenoid is ok, it makes a nice and sound click when i
connect it straight to the battery. There must be something
screwed up in the wires somewhere between the start button
and the solenoid connectors... uggh I just hate electrical
problems, they're such a pain in the arse. I experienced
that sort of thing before on my old Africa Twin, it lasted
for ages, through a few official "it's all fixed now Sir,
sign down here please", and i only got it sorted out after
the bike got stolen and found again. There was some damage,
and the insurance covered it all, including the electrical
thing. Never knew what it was.

Oh well, i still haven't decided whether i'm gonna try and
fix it myself, or leave it as a bundle with the 40000 km
revision. I'm just always worried they put in twelve more
hours fumbling around to find where the short is...
