good grief!  -- I'm having a lot of trouble believing that you spent much
time looking at your owner's manual (and I'm hoping someone else will
confirm that Triumph didn't drop the ball here)

I don't have an '06, but I can tell you that my owners manual has more than
enough info to do a proper oil change

but I think this may be the main reason you are having so much trouble:

there is a SEPARATE plug to drain the oil from the crankcase -- removing
just the oil filter will NOT suffice

btw, although there are many alternatives to the OEM oil filter that are
more than up to the task, FRAM would NOT be one of the ones that I would
recommend, but that's just me......
