Re: [ST] Another Tire Thread?

I may have been on it, I can't recall all the route numbers. Truth is,
I can only recall a few. :0)

Maybe I've been lucky, but I ran a series of Azaros on my Hawk in the
years prior to Sprinting and never had any real rain issues. Maybe I'm
just too conservative in the rain?

I wasn't running high speeds when the Azaros made me
pucker in the rain. Last summer, I got caught on the
wrong side of the mountains from my hotel on a trip
through VA. If you are familiar with it, Hwy 250 can
be real blast, but not in a thunderstorm with tires
that slip!

Interesting. I have a new Pilot Road on the front and
the worn AV46 on
the rear and rode home in two days of near total rain
(Sunday and
Monday). No scary behavior from the rear at all, even
with almost no
groove left in the center of the rear. Steady 85
(indicated) most of
the way.

I used to run Avon Azaros but never liked their wet
weather performance. Last month I put on the new Avon
Storms. After 3K miles, there is still plenty of
center tread (I'm hoping to get another 2.5K out of
them on an upcoming 6-day trip). The tires have
worked great so far, including multiple runs through
Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, and other NC, TN, GA, and
VA twisties.

I even got stuck in the rain with them a couple times
and never once slid the rear like I always did with
the Azaros.

Your results may vary.

I just returned from a Hawk rally in Virginia, back to
New Hampshire,
and my rear tire is all done. Once again, since I
live so far from what
I consider to be good roads (Northwest Virginia on
south) and I commute
quite a lot on the Sprint, I'm left with tire after
tire hitting the
wear bars in the center with plenty of side tread
left. Can anyone speak
to a tire that has a "rock hard", high mileage center
tread that can
still play in the mountains, when I can get there?

At least I was able to completely erase my rear
chicken strips before
the tire died! :0)!!

TIA,

J
