Re: [ST] Collective wisdom....

John - I just changed the CDI box on my XR650L. PO reported it ran fine
till it warmed up and then it started to cut out. It seems to be a weak
link with Hondas maybe ?

Subject: [ST] Collective wisdom....

Thanks for the many replies and suggestions, some of
which have gotten me to where I am now. Here is what I
know. I have narrowed it to the CDI, the crank pulse
sensors, or the remote possibility of the pump:

The pump tests fine with no load, spewing well more
than the spec rating of 650 ml per minute. I know it
is a self regulating pressure pump, but it takes just
a little finger pressure to shut it down. I am not
sure if this is normal or not. Manual does not give a
spec. Wired direct to the battery, I still have a
problem.

Crank pulse sensors. Most likely I think. MAnual calls
for a spec between 450 and 550 ohms. Both read 420. I
do think it is odd that they are both the same.
Replacing them is beyond what I am capable of myself
here, unfortunatley.

I intend to take her for a short ride here in a few
minutes, she if I can get it to fail and then take a
few more readings...I keep looking up stream...the
fuel pump relay does not spit out the proper voltage
but I swapped it and had the same result. The CDI box
drives the relay, and crank pulse sensors drive the
CDI, unless I am mistaken.

Anyone know a competant shop in the Phoenix area ?

John
