Re: [ST] st Digest, Vol 26, Issue 4

Paul:

I previously owned a 2001 BRG ST. Put 30K on her in 4 1/2 years with
virtually no problems. I did have a wire break up near the headstock at
about 20K miles, which prevented the bike from starting, and did require an
out of pocket expense of about $150.00. I just couldn't track down the
short on my own and had to resort to a dealer fix. I saved a bit of money by
removing the bodywork before she went onto the shop. The bike was a year out
of the 2 year warranty. Other than that it was a great bike, and led me to
purchase my 2006 Sunset Red ST last summer. That bike has 5.5K on it right
now and has been essentially flawless. I addressed the under seat heat
issues by using a foil backed insulation product and that was a good fix.
I've also owned a 1996 Trident 900, which I put 27K trouble free miles on,
and a 2001 Speed Triple that I should never have parted with! My only issue
with the new ST has been a cracked tail light, which was replaced under
warranty. The dealer has the new part, but insists they must install it! I
have to wait another week for an appointment to remove and replace 2 screws!
