Peter,  looks like you've received quite a few suggestions so far, and I hate to 
suggest the simple but I've seen bad behaviour like this when the battery was 
low/dying or connections were loose.  I don't recall you stating that was 
checked out ok but then I may have missed it as I'm flying thru a swarm of email 
to catch up.
