Re: [ST] ST questions, at least a couple

Hi John & others,
My name is Bill Pitt & I live in Connecticut. I've had 4 Triumphs since 99, including a 99/ 1200 Trophy, 99 Legend, 03 Sprint ST, and now an 06 Sprint ST/ABS. I've been very pleased with the Triumphs. This bike had a couple of small issues, the loose ignition switch, swing arm bolt recall, and loose steering head adjustment. That caused head shake and tire cupping but were fixed by the dealer with no problems. I had 020's on both Sprints and the rears were gone between 6000-7000. I switched to Avon AV45-46's and get 10,000 and switched to be super safe, with a smile. The ABS has only been used a couple of times but I've been in situations on my ST4 Ducati, 03 ST, FJR 1300 etc when my rear locked up in panic situations, I'm definately in favor of the ABS. The stock seat isn't much, I've used Sargent on my ST4, 03 ST, & FJR and been happier with them than Corbin but went to Corbin for my 06 ST since Sargent doesn't make one for the new Sprints, it's very comfortable and has a key to easily remove the seat (stock seat must be bolted on???)
good luck
billybob

John,
I'm about your size, and ride an '03 ST (pre 05 there were both Sprint
ST's and RS's). My wife and I enjoy taking a week-long trip on the bike
every year. With both of us on the bike, as well as fully loaded
panniers, we're getting really close (read: AT) the weight limit of the
bike... That said, the Sprint does exceptionally. The only issues we
have are passenger legroom (wife has a 34" inseam), and the factory
seat. The most miles we've done in a day two-up is just over 450...

The only real way to know if the bike will work is to try it. Many
people prefer it to the VFR for the added low-end grunt (I can't
comment, haven't tried the VFR), but say that the ergos are (were) very
similar. I think that the 2007 has a more relaxed position, due to the
raised bars.

Good luck on whatever you decide! As for this list, its been around
since the first Sprint ST showed up in 99 (late 98?) and we've generally
welcomed newcomers, no matter the year of their bike.

Dan
