I installed a set of those on a friends BMW and they lasted about 
half a winter season.
Then in the cold of January in his barely heated garage, we installed 
a set of Hot Grips, with the variable heat controller. They are still 
on the bike today nearly four years later.

Last November I installed a set of Hot Grips on my Honda VFR. Every 
day that I ride that I turn them on I sit and think "Why did I wait 
so long to do these".
They work better than advertised and  with my larger than average 
hands, I actually like the thicker than stock grips.

When I get my Sprint if it does not have the heated grips I will be 
adding the Hot grips.
