Shutting down with the kill switch is a great idea for building the
instinct for an emergency, but don't learn to just leave the key
switched in.

Yea, that's the new habit I'm going to try to learn...Kill switch to
off, Key switch to off, Key clipped to belt, Kill switch back to on,
kick stand down, walk away from bike.... 
Probably verging on Obsesive-Compulsive, but there are a lot of airplane
drivers around alive today because of just such O-C behavior....
