Re: [St] Chain & Sprockets

I too am looking at this little maintenance upgrade. I called the shop and was quoted something like $75 for the front OEM Triumph sprocket in either 19 or 18T. I am opting for the JT front for $25. Personally, I am interested in seeing what the fuss is about with the 18T, as I have heard that if you are looking for a seventh gear on the highway with the 19T you will really be tapping for it with the 18T. I do a bit of touring and at times it does involve long highway miles. But OTOH, I have heard it is nice to have the 18 in stop and go traffic. So, we'll see.

The reason people prefer the Triumph front sprocket is for the rubber damper
that is molded into/onto it. This supposedly reduces noise. I'm at about
the same point as you, and will most likely do the same (try both 18T and
19T sprockets). I've contemplated asking the local shop if they have any
18T laying around (I guess its a common swap for the Bonnies to go from the
stock 18T to some other size), but I don't spend enough time or money there
to get any freebies...
