All the Triumph electronic speedo's are programmed to show 6-8% fast along with I believe, all the the Japanese ones. I'm not sure about the Italian & German bikes.

Just about every bike I've ever been on had the "optomistic" speedometer as
you've discovered. Your GPS should be right-on, so get to know your speedo's
error and you're right, it's progressive so the error gets bigger the faster you
go.
File that one under "they all do that". ;^{D
