Always used Renthall hard anodised alu sprockets and would routinely get 30K 
miles service from them.
That's year round use for everyday commuting, work milage and regular track 
days.
I do clean and lube the chain regularly.

Good quality Aluminium sprockets are absolutely fine for everyday road use 
provided that they have a hard anodized surface treatment.
Many cheaper brands are sold with a purely decorative bright anodized finish 
which is crap.
