Thanks, I hadn't known that. Perhaps it's not as
apparent with the flying (running?) start for the 500.

Just an FYI. Even though the yard wide strip of
bricks are in the front
straight they presented a problem for the F1 cars.
They started from a dead stop running clockwise about
ten yards in front of
the bricks.
The pole sitter was penalized as his tires would spin
up when hitting the
bricks.
As a result the start line was moved back another
thirty feet so the car
would be in second gear by the time it hit the bricks.
