Dan,

I've had a pair for at least 4 years now and wear them almost every time I ride.  I find them to be relatively comfortable.  They can be hot in the summer when you're at a light but IMO it's not too bad.  They add a little warmth in the cooler weather too.

I haven't gone down in them so I can't speak to their crash worthiness,
