I carried  a 12V tire compressor for the first time on a long trip this 
summer and ended up using it every day.  It was a bad tire trip.

I picked up a brad nail on the second day and carried it throughout the 
trip.  There was no chance of getting a new tire where I was  I tend to 
travel where there are few shops that carry sport bike tires, much less a 
Triumph shop.  We slimed the tire and filled it up daily, then twice a day, 
then every half hour on the last day when I ran over something 200 miles 
from home.  This was a 9 day 4000+ mile trip.

So, carry the compressor.  Tire plugs would not have helped this time, but 
I've used the BMW plug type ones and the long fuzzy string types before with 
success.

The other thing to carry is a tire core valve remover and a new tire core 
both of which you can get at an auto supply store.  I had one break while 
using the 12V compressor.
