I take it you're saying this because some  dumb ass motorcyclist wannabe hit the brakes in a panic and came to a full stop in the middle of the highway just as you were approaching from behind?  That would have been ugly at that speed.  Good thing you didn't hit the jerk.

Apparently some people aren't aware of the basic road kill law, so  
let's review.

If it's smaller than a dog, you should slow and hope it gets out of  
your way. Larger than that, you should take appropriate action, and  
choose one or the other, SWERVE or BRAKE. Picking both options rarely  
ends up well, even if you're driving a cage. Braking force should be  
relative to the size of the animal and the potential for said animal  
to be owned by a small girl who received said animal as her 10th  
birthday present.

Now if your driving down a country highway at 55mph and a squirrel  
jumps out into the road, do you:

1. Do nothing because you can't predict what a squirrel will do. The  
worst case is that Darwin's law takes effect.

2. Slow down a bit to give the stupid ass squirrel a bit more time to  
decide its fate. After all, squirrels are cute and one of God's  
creatures. Not to mention you don't like cleaning off squirrel guts  
off your chrome.

3. Hit the brakes in a panic and come to a full stop in the middle of  
the highway just as a speeding motorcycle is approaching from behind  
you.

We will accept answers 1 or 2. Drivers who practice answer 3 should  
not be on the road.

Other than that, the day's ride up Hwy 36 to Dinsmore and back was a  
welcome break from the painting chores that filled the rest of the  
weekend.
