Re: [St] Stupid Nation/If you don't like it...LEAVE..

Steve,
You asked for an explanation. My feeling, and it is my feeling, but possibly not my feeling alone.
If you feel we're so stupid here maybe you should move on, R. A.T. to you should have a new meaning "Ride Away Turkey". A smaller car may be a good idea for several, for some a larger car makes sense. Economically a motorcycle only makes sense to fools. True, it helps the Planet, if one always uses a motorcycle, and only a motorcycle. Economically it's stupid. If one were to examine the cost of tires alone over the span of 50,000 miles, one would find that car tires cost 1/4 that of motorcycles. That factor coupled with the cost of ownership, insurance, maintenance, & taxes would by far outweigh the savings a motorcycle would bring to the table. One has to ride a motorcycle for the enjoyment and freedom of being on a motorcycle and the fact that they are helping the Planet on a very limited basis. For you to say that we are a "Stupid Nation" because we are not all on Schwinns makes me say to you "Ride Away Turkey"
billybob.

I remember how small import cars became more popular in the late 70s and early 80s after the gas shocks of that era. However, it didn't take long after gas got relatively cheap again for people to go buy SUVs and trucks that they rarely really needed. Now we have all these road monsters blazing along our highways at maximum speeds, and their drivers whining about how much it costs to fill their huge fuel tanks.

I am thinking about using my RS to commute sometimes this year once the weather gets a bit drier here in the Great NorthWet. 50 mpg is better than the average 25-26 in my Honda Prelude. Additionally, given that I own it, I would not need any additional investment. Though it would have excess performance and weight compared to a smaller bike, the difference in mileage would make another investment even harder to justify. Besides, my dear, sweet wife thinks a One Motorcycle Rule is a good idea. I never understood it, but I love her anyway. ;-)
