Re: [St] [ST]alternator troubles

HI Markus,

Thanks for the answer.

The only accessory is my pda w/ tomtom on it. I added the two relays to have
the two beams at the same time. I will probably add switches to control one vs two.
On our way back, I suppressed those additional relays.

According to what I read on the net, it seems that at low speed the alternator has bad performances
because it's a permanent magnet one. But in our case, I was around 100km/h all the time. that is between 3000 and 4000 rpm.

Regarding the fact that I had speedo problems since few months ago, the charging problems are not so new
to my bike. But I didn't have starting problems except perhaps one or two hesitant starting now that i am thinking about it.

I found out on http://www.triumphrat.net forums that alternator problems are not so rare.

I would need input on the way the stator coils are connected.

Fred

Hi Frederic,

What kind of accessories are you using? Loads of gadgets attached and it can
be possible that the alternator can't charge the battery anymore. Especially
while riding at a slow pace.

Never heard of anyone with alternatorproblems on a Trumpet before. Are you
sure that the wiring is all intact?

Besides that, In the last years I found out that:
Filling a maintenance free battery with water will damage it. Only normal
batteries can be refilled!
Charging a maintenance free battery with the wrong gear (charger) will also
damage it.
Jumpstarting batteries will shorten their lifespan, but is a good solution
when nothing else is at hand.

Please inform and I'll see what I can do.
